CLIENTELLE :
Bandmembers |
 |
|
 |
'Rockit'
Roy Powell
Founder member of Clientelle,
Rockit wrote most of the songs and also produced the ' Rockit Review '.
The driving force behind the band, he was well known for his stage
outfits. An avid Alice Cooper fan, Rockit was never happier than when he
was on stage. After Clientelle, feeling he couldn't better it, he
finally settled down with his family. Living in St. Albans, Rockit
supplied much of the information for this site, and on the question of
playing again he says; "I dunno, maybe, can we get a date at the
Horn?" |

Rik
Taylor
Joining, almost at the beginning, Rik bought the last
ingredient to the Clientelle sound. We won't mention the green trousers
or his desire to play with Pyro's, but enthusiasm for music must be his
greatest asset. Continuing to perform, after Clientelle, Rik went on to
play in 'Armed Forces', 'Calling Mexico', 'Sack The Juggler' and
'Walking on Ice'. The author of this website, he can still be seen
playing in the band, 'BigWorld', and doing sessions, around Luton, where
he now lives with his chipmunk, Charlie!

Stevie
'T' Trudgett
Founder member with Roy, Stevie's love of
Marc Bolan's music was the driving force behind his desire to be in a
band. Stevie, never one to say much on stage (when he did he would get a
standing ovation), designed the famous Clientelle logo, and always
had a good supply of 'homebrew' to help the songwriting along! Now
living in Hatfield with his family, Stevie still play occasionally,
mainly recording with his sons, one of which has now appeared at the
Horn . Is this the beginning of a new 'Telle'? |

Phil Goodfellow
Phil's drumming was like Phil really. You never
knew what was coming next! Ask Hoggy. His ability to handle the
'business' end of the band, secured many of the early gigs, and meant we
got paid occasionally. Known for an amazing 'scream' which could be
heard over the band without amplification, Phil was struck dumb once at
a gig by two, 15 foot python's which took a shine to him! After
Clientelle, ill health prevented him from continuing in music. He still
lives in St. Albans with his family.

Martin
'Witik' Whitewick
Joined Clientelle from Toad The
Wet Sprocket in March 1982. Beating off 9 drummers for the job,
Witik was always first choice to replace Phil. His love of Led Zeppelin
and Little Feat meant his drumming was well suited and his love of
homebrew meant he fitted right in! Left Clientelle suddenly because of a
management foul-up, he later re-appeared in Armed Forces with Rik
and later in Sack The Juggler.
He lives in Dunstable with his family and lately there's been a rumour
he's drumming again. We hope so. |

Dave Ashcroft
Joined Clientelle 3 days before the Hawkwind tour
in February 1983. Dave had been drumming in As Above So Below and also
helped out on the lighting for Clientelle's larger shows. His jazzier
influence did change Clientelle a bit, but not enough for Dave, whose
desire for more jazzfunk meant him leaving in the August. After much
success with other acts and a european tour playing for Hazel O'Connor,
Dave went to Edinburgh University to study a BSc. Hons. in marine biology. He's
about to return to St. Albans to start drumming again. Horray.

Ian
Disspain
Ian joined in September 1983, bringing a much more
rock approach back to Clientelle. Ian's style and energy fitted the band
perfectly but his envolvement in other projects was eventually to cause
problems. In February 1984, his leaving was to influence Rik's
departure. Ian later went on to join 'The Son's Of Valentino', moving to
the USA for a year.
Lately Ian was supposed to start a project with Rik but went AWOL.
Believed to still be in Harpenden Herts. |

Bernie Devine
Bernie was first in Clientelle before Rik . But
other commitments, meant that it took 6 years before Bernie finally
played guitar under the name Clientelle. A fantastic guitarist, Bernie
helped Clientelle to record a demo of new songs before it was decided to
fold the band. Since, Bernie has worked for many artists as well as
fronted his own band. He still lives in St. Albans and is still in big
demand for his guitar playing .

Terry
Cox
Joined in March 1984 with Bernie and John, Terry
used to play in Moonstone, a band in which Ian Disspain once played,
fronted by John Payne (Now in Asia). Terry's drumming was
'straight down the line' rock drumming and suited the new songs
the band were writing. He stayed with the band until it folded in
February 1985. We don't know where Terry is now. Hey Terry, let us know
mate. |

John
Devine
Joined Clientelle with his brother Bernie in
1984 to add keyboards to the sound. John's wicked dry sense
of humour will always be remembered. His keyboard playing can be heard
on the even rarer demo which also features Bernie and Terry. Recently
married, John now resides on a houseboat somewhere near Tring. Iif your out there John,
send us a better picture of you please, this ones s**t.
